QUEEN (RATOH), MADURESE APPRECIATION FORM AGAINST WOMEN

If we look for a king in Madura till old we will never find it. Why? Because in the treasury of the Madurese do not know the word king, it was only queen or Ratoh. So, how come? It can not be separated from the history of Madurese who was born from a wasted princess. The Princess was thrown into a state of Madura in the pregnant because the father of the child is not known. Seeing the fact, the Princess' father who is also a King ordered the executioner to cut off the neck of the princess because it was considered an embarrassment to the royal family of kingdom.
It was told that the kingdom was located in the border area of Malang and Lumajang. Some are calling as a kingdom in Kediri. But the princess defended herself by saying "no man ever raped me and before this I had no contact with a man else" but the father still could not accept the princess' explanation that does not make sense or not logic. The father said angrily "no…, it is impossible that you are pregnant without a man ever" and he still commanded the royal executioner to chop off his daughter in the middle of the forest. In order that no one else knows this embarrassing thing. But executioner was hesitant for doing that by saying “can you consider your decision my lord” but the king said angrily “how dare you resist my command. she did something that can make me shay” than the executioner said “but she is still your daughter my lord” I do not care about that. do what I said right now please…! it is none of your business or I would kill you too” than the executioner said shakily “ all right my lord I would do it .
When the executioner brought the princess into the forest to cut, she couldn’t be cut off. She was protected by a mysterious force so that the princess' body can not be cut off. seeing that the princess thank god than she said” trust me that I did not do that contemptible deeds. Than the executioner said” I believe you my princess.” From there, the executioner was aware that the princess is innocent and not doing contemptible deeds. But because the executioner is not allowed to go home by the king before the neck of the princess is cut, than the executioner said” go from here…!because I am not allowed to go home with you and do not come here any more because the king would kill you” then the princess said “thank you let me go I would not forget your kindness and how if the king knows this.” The executioner said “He would not know this” then the executioner made a raft for the princess to live far away and not be found by Kingdoms' family. He let the princess sailed the raft on the sea.
Once upon day, the princess arrived in an island that we call Madura now. And she lives there during her life. From the Princess was born Madura generations. The name of Madura itself was taken when the princess was stranded there in a group of islands and there was honey in the middle of island. From there, arises the word "maddu e ra-ara" which means honey in the field. The princess gave birth to the first generation of the Madurese. The princess then in the next time is called Queen/Ratoh by Madurese.
From there, develop an understanding that a ruler or leader called queen in Madura and not the King. And then it was recorded in history that the Madurese people led by a queen/ratoh, although he is a man or a woman, not distinguish sex of queen attached to the leader even though he is a man or a woman still called by Madurese people as queen/ratoh. Although Islamic culture arrived in the island of Madura and the Madurese leaders of the member title as the Sultan, still called as queen of Madurese. "Sultan Abdurrahman was queen of Sumenep". That phrase we will find when we ask about who is the most famous ruler of Madura in Sumenep, a most eastern districts on the island of Madura. Beside queen/ratoh to respect, there are also 4 people who must be respected by the Madurese existing in the expression "Bebak, bebuk, guruh, ratoh" which means ”Father, Mother, Teacher, and Queen (ruler)".
King did not go in a matter of four earlier, because they did not exist in the treasury of Madura. From the legend of the Princess will also cause the Madurese respect towards women. They occupy a high degree of Madurese culture. So do not try playing Madurese women, or try an affair with the wife of the Madurese, if you're still desperate. The price you have to pay is too expensive, because your soul is the price, you will be killed by the husband. In the treasury of Madura, Madurese people have a principle "better dead than disgraced" that is familiar in Madurese idiom “lebbi begus pote tolang etembeng pote matah” it means that no one else can disturb his wife if still want to survive. A bit sadistic but it's indeed a token of Madurese appreciation against women.
